Position: Groundsperson
Location: Surrey & Sussex Crematorium, Crawley
Job Type: Full-time position of 40 hours per week, requiring flexibility to work shift patterns, including early starts, evenings, and weekends.
Salary: £27,289.60 per annum
As a Crematorium Assistant- Grounds person, you will be responsible for ensuring the crematorium grounds, gardens, and memorial areas are maintained to a high standard. You will work as part of a team to deliver exceptional care and presentation across the site.
Cremator Technician qualified candidates are highly desirable, and applications from those already holding this qualification are strongly encouraged. Qualified applicants will receive an uplifted salary of £28,184.00 per annum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out seasonal gardening and landscaping, including mowing, weeding, pruning, planting, and hedge cutting.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of paths, lawns, memorial plots, and landscaped areas.
- Conduct routine checks and light maintenance of grounds equipment.
- Support with leaf clearance, snow and ice control, and seasonal planting displays.
- Maintain memorial areas with care and attention to detail.
- Assist families with basic memorial enquiries when required.
- Work collaboratively with the site team, supporting other duties when needed.
- Follow health and safety policies, ensuring a safe working environment.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has strong interpersonal skills and communicates empathetically with families.
- Is physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks, including grounds maintenance.
- Is comfortable using basic IT systems for bookings and administrative tasks.
- Has experience in a customer-facing role (hospitality, care, retail, bereavement) preferred.
- Is eager to learn and adaptable to a multi-skilled role.
