Position: Health & Safety Manager - North Region

Location: North UK Region | Hybrid working with regular regional travel
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Circa £45,000 per annum + £4,000 car allowance

We’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join our central Health & Safety team, supporting our operational teams across the North of the UK.

This is a hands-on, highly visible role where you’ll work with leaders across our funeral homes, care centres, crematoria, offices and other operational locations. You’ll provide expert advice, assurance and constructive challenge, helping us create safer workplaces and continuously improve our Health & Safety standards.

If you enjoy working with people, have the confidence to influence at all levels and like a role where no two days are the same, this could be the opportunity for you.

Why This Role Matters

At Dignity, our mission is to help every family in Britain navigate the hardest moments of life with simplicity, dignity, kindness and exceptional care.

Our people are at the heart of delivering that mission. As Health & Safety Manager, you’ll help ensure our colleagues have safe working environments and the right support, guidance and knowledge to manage risk effectively.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference across a large and varied operational network, working closely with leaders to strengthen our safety culture.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be responsible for providing practical Health & Safety support across the North, with around 50–70% of your time spent visiting our operational locations.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assurance & inspections – Carry out audits, inspections and reviews, identifying risks, providing recommendations and following up actions.

  • Incident management – Support managers with accident and incident investigations, helping identify root causes and prevent recurrence.

  • Business partnering – Build trusted relationships with operational leaders, providing practical advice and constructive challenge to improve standards.

  • Risk management – Support teams with risk assessments, safe systems of work and effective control measures.

  • Training & coaching – Deliver engaging Health & Safety training and coach leaders to build confidence and promote positive safety behaviours.

  • Data & reporting – Analyse Health & Safety data, identify trends and provide clear insight to support decision-making.

  • Continuous improvement – Help develop our Health & Safety Management Framework, policies and processes and contribute to improvement projects.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical Health & Safety knowledge with excellent communication and influencing skills.

You’ll bring:

  • Significant Health & Safety experience within a multi-site or geographically dispersed organisation.

  • Experience in auditing, inspections, assurance and incident investigation.

  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and risk management.

  • Experience working with and influencing operational leaders.

  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills.

  • A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to constructively challenge when required.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently across multiple locations.

  • Good analytical skills and confidence using Microsoft platforms and data to identify trends and opportunities.

Essential qualifications:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification, IOSH membership and experience with ISO 45001 would be advantageous.

Experience in funeral services, crematoria, facilities management, logistics, retail or another multi-site operational environment would also be beneficial.

What You Can Expect From Us

We believe in rewarding our colleagues with a strong, supportive benefits package that helps you feel secure, valued and able to grow.

  • Time to recharge – Up to 25 days’ annual leave, increasing with service, plus bank holidays.

  • A little extra reward – Opportunity to earn a yearly bonus of up to £300–£500.

  • Planning for your future – 4% matched pension.

  • Peace of mind – Life assurance cover at 2x your salary.

  • Everyday savings and perks – Access to MyStaffShop, plus eyecare support, flu jab reimbursement and lifestyle discounts.

  • Support when you need it – 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme, occupational health services and confidential counselling.

  • Learn and grow – Ongoing training and development, including internal learning pathways and apprenticeship opportunities.

  • Making work easier – Free on-site parking available at most locations.

Why Life Services Group

Life Services Group exists to help every family in Britain navigate the hardest moments of life. We bring together trusted names across funeral services, crematoria and cemeteries, legal services, direct cremation and wills, including Dignity Funeral Directors, CMG, Simplicity Cremations, Dignity Legal Services and Farewill, so families can get more of the support they need in one place.

Our ambition is to support one in three families across the UK as they plan for, navigate and deal with death. We want to set a new standard for care, service and simplicity across the sector.

Death is part of life, and being there for families when it matters is what we do. That means making difficult moments feel more supported, more straightforward and more human.

We are building a modern group that supports families at every stage, from planning ahead with wills and funeral plans, to arranging a funeral, cremation or burial, and managing probate afterwards. This is a defining moment for our business. With stronger foundations, clearer strategy and real momentum, we can change end-of-life care for the better. We are modernising how we work, investing in our colleagues and technology, and helping more families than any one brand could alone.

Wherever you work in Life Services Group, in one of our local teams, specialist brands or group functions, you’ll be part of work with meaningful purpose. You will help families through some of life’s hardest and most important moments.

Across all our brands, we want colleagues to grow with us through better training, stronger support, modern tools and clearer opportunities to build skills and confidence. You’ll be part of teams who care deeply about what they do, look out for each other and take pride in doing work that matters.

You will also help shape the future of end-of-life care. That means making support simpler, more connected and more human for families, while each brand keeps the identity, expertise and community connection people already know and trust.

If you want a career with meaningful purpose, room to grow with us and the chance to shape the future, find your Life’s work.
